Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW)’s service learning program sees students ready to immerse themselves in local communities this summer. The 2024 Thematic Community Service Program, encompassing the International Service Learning with Hong Kong Poly-U and the Inclusive and Waste Management Program, will take place as live-in experiences in Sedayu District, Bantul Regency, from June 19 to July 18, 2024.

The International Service Learning with Hong Kong Poly-U focuses on “Local Wisdom-Based Community Empowerment,” assisting the elderly, addressing stunting, and utilizing local resources in Argorejo Village. The Inclusive and Waste Management Program aims to enhance the well-being of the Forum Keluarga Difabel Pinilih and improve waste management practices in Sedayu District.

Dr. Rosa Delima, Vice Rector I of UKDW, highlighted the importance of KKN as a mandatory course for all students to understand community challenges and collaborate on solutions. Sedayu District Head Anton Yulianto emphasized the involvement of various stakeholders and the importance of students understanding community dynamics.

The event included the signing of the KKN Hand-Over Agreement and the symbolic presentation of blazers to student representatives. These programs aim to foster creative and innovative community empowerment, benefiting students, supervisors, and the broader community while expanding collaboration networks.
