The Faculty of Information Technology of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta took part as the host for a discussion conducted by the Indonesian Artificial Intelligence Society (IAIS) Chapter Joglosemar on Friday, February 21, 2020. Taking place at Firewall Room at Agape Building 3rd floor, the event was attended by lecturers from UKDW, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga, Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana as well as representatives from start-up companies Neurabot and Widya Wicara. The topic of discussion was about the need for Artificial Intelligence (AI) based systems in Indonesia.
IAIS was established in 2018, consists of AI enthusiasts from different backgrounds such as academicians, business players, as well as government. Currently, IAIS has around 400 members. IAIS is an independent community that was established with the hope of being a trusted partner for communities that want to implement artificial intelligence. IAIS is currently chaired by Dr. Ir. Lukas, MAI, CISA, IPM.
IAIS welcomes anyone who has an interest in AI to join and participate in discussions. As AI still draws skeptical looks from many, IAIS aim for AI to gain a positive response from the general public. IAIS tries to improve Indonesia’s human resource capacity to be able to create more AI-based innovations and reduce the dependency on imported products.
In this occasion, Lukas also explained three steps of creating artificial intelligence, started from the first step, which is Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI) that focuses on solving one problem. After ANI, artificial intelligence is expected to be developed into the second step, which is artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and finally, Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) whose ability exceeds human in all aspects.
One of the startups displaying its innovation in this event was Widya Wicara. This local startup created a smart speaker with a personal assistant named Widya. Currently, Widya can run several tasks such as setting prayer remainder, doing conversation and playing music. (FTI/Rully)
