UKDW Holds 2026 Spiritual Development Program for Muslim Employees During Ramadan
Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) held its 2026 Spiritual Development Program for Muslim Employees (PSKM) on Thursday, March 12, at the Koinonia Auditorium. Conducted during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri, the event was attended by around 140 Muslim employees, ranging from administrative staff to outsourced personnel, including security, cleaning, and parking staff.
This year’s program carried the theme “Ramadan and the Spirit of Service: Turning Work into a Source of Ongoing Charity.” Through the event, UKDW encouraged employees to view their work as both an act of worship and a means of contributing to the greater good.
The program opened with a performance by the Hadroh group UYE, led by students from the HMI chapter of the Faculty of Ushuluddin at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Hosted by Dedy Eko Prasetia and Raja Dharma Ksatria, the group performed several sholawat (Islamic devotional songs), including “*Assalamualaik & Ya Rabb Sholli*,” “*Qomarun*,” “*Sluku-Sluku Bathok*,” and “*Padang Bulan*.” The performance created a reflective and spiritually uplifting atmosphere in line with the spirit of Ramadan.
The event continued with a *tausiah* (religious lecture) delivered by Ahmad Rafiq, Ph.D., a lecturer at the Graduate School of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. In his talk, he encouraged participants to see Ramadan not merely as a time of fasting, but as an opportunity for character building and spiritual growth.
He described Ramadan as a period of intensive spiritual training that strengthens one’s faith. The values cultivated during fasting, he said, should be carried into daily life, including in the workplace.
He also emphasized that fasting reflects a dynamic form of *taqwa* (God-consciousness). Rather than a fixed state, *taqwa* is an ongoing process of self-reflection and renewal.
“*Taqwa* is a compass that guides us through life. Therefore, how we treat others is an essential part of practicing it,” he said.
Ahmad Rafiq also highlighted the importance of work ethic as a form of worship. He stressed that any job—no matter how small—holds spiritual value when carried out with sincere intention and responsibility.
According to him, the roles performed by employees—including security, cleaning, and parking staff—play a vital part in ensuring comfort and smooth operations on campus. Through their dedication, employees contribute meaningfully to the wider community.
“When we work with sincerity and responsibility, it becomes a tangible expression of *taqwa*. Ramadan is a moment to reflect on the quality of ourselves, our families, and our work,” he added.
In addition to the lecture, the program featured a recitation of verses from the Qur’an (Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 183–185) by Gabriel al-Khoiri Siregar, accompanied by saritilawah (melodic recitation) by Slamet Sulistyo, further enhancing the solemnity of the event.
Vice Rector IV Rev. Wahju Satria Wibowo, Ph.D., and Vice Rector II Ambar Kusuma Astuti, M.Si., were also in attendance. At the end of the program, representatives of the Duta Wacana Foundation (YPTK) symbolically presented Ramadan gift packages as a gesture of appreciation for the employees’ dedication.
Through PSKM 2026, UKDW hopes that its Muslim employees will continue to see their daily work as a form of service and an opportunity to create lasting good for both the campus community and society at large.
