Lunar New Year at UKDW: Renewed Hearts, Strengthened Faith
The Lunar New Year is not only a time of celebration and togetherness, but also a meaningful opportunity for reflection and spiritual renewal. Embracing this spirit, the Institute for Spiritual Care, Counseling, and Campus Spirituality (LPKKSK) of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) held a Morning Prayer service themed “Faith in a Fragile World” on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Duta Wacana Chapel.
Incorporating elements of the Lunar New Year as an expression of gratitude, the gathering invited members of the university community to begin the year with a strong spiritual foundation.
The reflection was delivered by Dr. Singgih Santoso, M.M., Head of the Master’s Program in Management at the Faculty of Business, UKDW. Drawing from Luke 6:46–49, he encouraged participants not only to hear the Word of God, but to live it out in their daily lives.
In the passage, Jesus teaches that calling out “Lord, Lord” is meaningless without obedience. True faith, he explained, is reflected in action. Dr. Singgih illustrated this message through the parable of the wise and foolish builders: the one who hears and practices the Word is like a person who builds a house on a solid rock foundation—when floods come, it remains standing. In contrast, one who hears but does not act builds without a firm foundation, and the house collapses when storms strike.
He invited the UKDW academic community to reflect: What kind of foundation are we building? Are we nurturing our faith with sincerity, or merely going through spiritual routines?
Dr. Singgih reminded participants that challenges and trials are inevitable. We live in a fragile and uncertain world, yet God provides a firm foundation for those who place their trust in Him. Faith in Christ, he emphasized, becomes the anchor that sustains believers amid life’s disruptions.
God’s love calls for a tangible response. Believers are encouraged to engage deeply with Scripture, understand it faithfully, and embody its teachings in everyday life. Furthermore, they are called to share the Gospel with integrity and responsibility.
Worship, therefore, must go beyond ritual or ceremony. Faith that remains routine without obedience weakens one’s foundation. When life’s “floods” come, such faith falters. Consistent obedience, however, shapes a resilient and enduring faith.
Through this Morning Prayer service, the UKDW community is invited to begin the week grounded in prayer and reflection on God’s Word. In this way, Lunar New Year at UKDW becomes not only a cultural celebration, but also an opportunity for spiritual renewal. With renewed hearts and strengthened faith, members of the academic community are encouraged to move forward together, building their lives on a firm foundation.
