UKDW Partners with GL2I to Strengthen Sustainable Leadership Development
Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) hosted a four-day Leadership Academy & Train-the-Trainer (LA-TTT) program in collaboration with Global Learning Lab International (GL2I) from February 18–21, 2026. The program brought together 22 participants for the Train-the-Trainer (TTT) track and 69 participants for the Leadership Academy.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Parmonangan Manurung, UKDW’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni Relations, Information, and Innovation, noted that the initiative builds on a program launched late last year. He emphasized that leadership learning is designed not only to prepare participants to serve as trainers for students, but also to foster personal growth.
“This is an opportunity for us to deepen our understanding of leadership. It is not only about preparing to train students, but also about developing ourselves as individuals and as leaders,” he said.
The Train-the-Trainer sessions, held on February 18–19, formed a key part of UKDW’s structured leadership development pathway. Participants completed intensive training, followed by facilitator certification through evaluations and competency assessments. Ten participants were selected to serve as facilitators during the Leadership Academy on February 20–21.
Speaking at the event, Roland B. Smith, Co-Founder and Board Member of GL2I, highlighted that facilitators play a role that goes beyond delivering content.
“We are called to become better facilitators—to support and guide the learning process. A facilitator must understand core concepts, the learning curve model, personal transformation, how to create meaningful discussion spaces, and the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset,” he said.
He added that the program is designed to equip participants to serve their communities and the broader global society in more meaningful ways. The learning content aims to reshape perspectives, cultivate new ways of thinking, and encourage positive social behavior, enabling participants to make a tangible impact in their respective environments.
The Leadership Academy was attended by 69 participants, including student mentors of the 2026 Student Personal Development Program (P3DM), P3DM facilitators and content team members, representatives from the campus ministry team, as well as presidents and vice presidents of faculty-level student organizations.
Over two days, participants engaged in interactive learning sessions, group discussions, reflections, and leadership exercises focused on strengthening character, integrity, and communication skills. The program seeks to enhance facilitator capacity, deepen participants’ understanding of experiential learning, and develop effective facilitation and feedback skills.
The event featured two international speakers: Robin A. Smith, Co-Founder and International Program Director of GL2I (United States), and Sushma B. Shrestha, Global Master Trainer of GL2I (Nepal).
Through its collaboration with GL2I, UKDW reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening a sustainable and internationally oriented leadership development ecosystem, built on a structured training model that progresses from facilitator preparation to foundational leadership training.
