UKDW Joins Forces with BNNP DIY to Fight Drug Abuse in Support of National Vision
Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta has formalized its partnership with the National Narcotics Agency of Yogyakarta (BNNP DIY) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the national anti-drug campaign under the P4GN program — the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The MoU, signed on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at UKDW’s Koinonia Auditorium, outlines a strategic collaboration aimed at raising awareness, promoting early detection, and encouraging community-based initiatives to combat drug abuse. The agreement also opens pathways for academic contributions through student internships, research, and scholarly engagement in drug prevention efforts.
UKDW Rector Dr.-Ing. Wiyatiningsih, S.T., M.T., highlighted the university’s ongoing commitment to the cause. “UKDW has previously collaborated with BNNP DIY on various awareness programs. Today’s signing marks a continuation and expansion of that partnership through formal and sustainable initiatives. We are ready to be involved beyond education and socialization. The event signals a deepening of the longstanding partnership between UKDW and BNNP DIY.,” she said.
The university’s long-term vision, encapsulated in its tagline “Sustainable Entrepreneurial Research University,” drives its active role in addressing threats to the nation’s youth. “This collaboration is crucial in safeguarding the future of young generations from drug threats, which aligns with our mission of sustainability,” she added.
Supporting Asta Cita and National Priorities
Brigadier General Andi Fairan, SIK, MSM, Head of BNNP DIY, praised UKDW for its swift and proactive response. “Not every institution responds as quickly and decisively as UKDW. While many acknowledge the dangers of drugs, few act immediately. UKDW has taken real steps to protect youth, demonstrating its commitment to the seventh pillar of Asta Cita, which focuses on eradicating corruption and drug abuse,” he stated, referring to the national development agenda outlined by President Prabowo.
During the visit, Brig. Gen. Andi Fairan also delivered an educational session on the dangers of narcotics to UKDW’s academic community. He warned that Yogyakarta — known for its status as a tourism and education hub — remains a prime target for drug trafficking networks. He urged vigilance, emphasizing that syndicates often infiltrate campuses by recruiting insiders.
UKDW’s collaboration with BNNP DIY signals a bold step forward in integrating education, public policy, and national resilience. As the partnership unfolds, both institutions aim to build a safer, more aware academic environment capable of resisting the growing threat of drug abuse. [humasukdw/trans.drr]
