Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta, in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), is hosting an international Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) program titled Promoting Digital Literacy in Developing Societies<\/em> to enhance digital literacy among junior high school students in Yogyakarta. The program, held at the UKDW campus from June 8\u201312, 2026, involves students from BOPKRI 1, BOPKRI 2, and BOPKRI 3 Junior High Schools in Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n

The EEE program reflects UKDW\u2019s commitment, through its Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), to expanding the impact of community engagement initiatives while strengthening international collaboration in education and technology. Activities officially commenced with an opening ceremony held on June 7, 2026, at Rev. Dr. Harun Hadiwijono Seminar Room.<\/p>\n

The program is supervised by Dr. Pauli Lai, Mr. Richard Pang, and Mr. Ivan Lau from PolyU, alongside Willy Sudiarto Raharjo, S.Kom., M.Cs., and dr. Loury Priskila, M.Biomed., from UKDW. A total of 34 PolyU students and six UKDW students from various academic disciplines are serving as facilitators, guiding participants throughout the program.<\/p>\n

Obed Tripambudi, Chair of the BOPKRI Foundation Yogyakarta, welcomed the collaboration between UKDW and PolyU, highlighting the valuable opportunity it provides for students to learn about technology in an international environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program offers students a valuable opportunity to explore technology while developing their creativity and innovative thinking skills. We also hope that the experiences gained through this program can inspire teachers and be adapted into classroom learning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Representing PolyU, Dr. Pauli Lai expressed appreciation to UKDW, the BOPKRI Foundation, and partner schools for their support in organizing the program. He noted that the EEE program features a range of interactive and hands-on technology learning activities, including Scratch programming, microcontroller projects, 3D printing, DIY workshops, and an IT Fun Fair showcasing technology demonstrations powered by artificial intelligence (AI).<\/p>\n

UKDW Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Rosa Delima, S.Kom., M.Kom., emphasized the importance of introducing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), artificial intelligence, and electronic engineering to younger generations at an early age.<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Delima, the EEE program serves not only as a platform for knowledge sharing but also as a cross-cultural learning experience for students from both PolyU and UKDW, helping them develop collaboration, communication, and social awareness skills.<\/p>\n

As part of the program, UKDW, PolyU, BOPKRI 1 Junior High School, BOPKRI 2 Junior High School, and BOPKRI 3 Junior High School signed an Implementation Arrangement. The signing symbolizes a shared commitment to strengthening educational partnerships and supporting programs that benefit schools, universities, and the wider community.<\/p>\n

Participants also attended orientation sessions led by UKDW faculty members. Dra. Endah Setyowati, M.Si., M.A., from the Faculty of Education and Humanities, delivered a session on Indonesian Culture and Etiquette<\/em>, introducing participants to Indonesia\u2019s cultural diversity, particularly the culture of Yogyakarta, as well as appropriate practices for engaging with local communities and school environments. Meanwhile, dr. Loury Priskila, M.Biomed., from the Faculty of Medicine, presented a session on Food Safety and Health Tips in Yogyakarta<\/em>, covering food safety, local weather conditions, and practical health recommendations for participants during the program.<\/p>\n

Through the EEE program, UKDW and PolyU aim to enhance digital literacy among junior high school students, strengthen international partnerships, and support the development of technology education that creates meaningful impact for society. The program reflects UKDW\u2019s ongoing commitment to preparing young people for the opportunities and challenges of the digital era.<\/p>\n
