Representatives of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) participated in the Asian Academy for Campus Ministry (AACM) 2026<\/em>, organized by the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA) at Payap University in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from May 3\u201310, 2026.<\/p>\n

Held under the theme \u201cMental Health, Spiritual Development, and Ministry as a Calling,\u201d<\/em> the program brought together approximately 30 chaplains, pastors, campus ministers, and student support professionals from 13 countries across Asia to explore approaches to student well-being, spiritual formation, and campus ministry.<\/p>\n

UKDW was represented by Adham Khrisna Satria, M.A., from the Campus Ministry (LPKKSK). In addition, UBCHEA entrusted two UKDW representatives with key leadership roles during the program: Rev. Stefanus Christian Haryono, Ph.D., a lecturer in the Faculty of Theology, served as a keynote speaker and panel discussion moderator, while Rev. Nani Minarni, S.Si., M.Hum., Head of LPKKSK, facilitated one of the working groups.<\/p>\n

Throughout the program, participants discussed various strategies for cultivating a Culture of Care<\/em> within higher education institutions. One of the most memorable sessions was a workshop titled The Edge of His Cloak: Healing through Drama and Movement<\/em>, facilitated by Dorothy Wong of Dream of Tomorrow (DOT).<\/p>\n

Using theatre and movement-based approaches, the workshop encouraged participants to reflect on the importance of mental health, self-awareness, and empathy in student ministry. The session emphasized that those who accompany and support students must first understand and process their own experiences and personal struggles in order to serve others more effectively and compassionately.<\/p>\n

Discussions on mental health continued through collaborative action-planning sessions. Participants from across Asia agreed that campus ministry should move beyond a crisis-response model and adopt more preventive and sustainable approaches that address the underlying challenges faced by students.<\/p>\n

During one of the discussions, Adham introduced the Guardian Angel Project<\/em>, a student mentoring initiative developed by UKDW\u2019s LPKKSK. Established by Rev. Nani Minarni in 2016, the program pairs students with peer companions who provide mutual support through regular meetings over the course of a semester.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful for the opportunity to introduce the Guardian Angel Project as part of the peer-to-peer support approach we have developed together. The program helps students build a sense of belonging, support one another, and grow together,\u201d Adham said.<\/p>\n

In addition to participating in academic and reflective sessions, attendees took part in cultural and spiritual immersion activities in Chiang Mai. The group visited Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Wat Pha Lat, and The First Church Chiang Mai to learn about the region\u2019s history, cultural traditions, and spiritual practices.<\/p>\n

For Adham, the experience provided valuable insights into the importance of developing a holistic approach to student ministry\u2014one that integrates spiritual, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions.<\/p>\n

Following AACM 2026, LPKKSK is committed to implementing and expanding the lessons learned during the program. Through collaboration among its Spiritual Development, Counseling, Creative Ministry, and Social Service divisions, UKDW plans to strengthen student support initiatives that integrate mental health awareness, creativity, spirituality, and community engagement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope to continue fostering a genuine culture of care on campus, ensuring that students receive comprehensive support for their academic, emotional, spiritual, and social development,\u201d Adham said.<\/p>\n

Participation in AACM 2026 reflects UKDW\u2019s ongoing commitment to nurturing student well-being and strengthening campus ministry through international collaboration, shared learning, and holistic approaches to student development.<\/p>\n
