Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta is hosting the 28th International Conference of Oriental COCOSDA (the International Committee for the Coordination and Standardization of Speech Databases and Assessment Techniques) from November 12\u201314, 2025. The prestigious event is organized by the Indonesia Collaborations for Research and AI Innovation (KORIKA) in partnership with UKDW, and supported by GLAIR AI, GOTO, Arcadia, the IEEE Computer Society Indonesia Chapter, and the Indonesia Association for Computational Linguistics (INACL).<\/p>\n

In her opening remarks, UKDW Rector Dr.-Ing. Wiyatiningsih, S.T., M.T., expressed her pride in the university\u2019s role as host, noting that the event aligns with UKDW\u2019s vision of becoming a Sustainable and Entrepreneurial Research University (SERU).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u201cWe believe technology is not only about machines and data, but also about people, voices, and understanding. Oriental COCOSDA\u2019s work in developing language and speech resources for diverse communities contributes to a world that is more inclusive, accessible, and connected. We hope this collaboration will lead to concrete projects that strengthen academic partnerships and interdisciplinary research,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

KORIKA Chairman Prof. Hammam Riza, who also attended the opening ceremony, emphasized that the future of artificial intelligence must be built on multi-helix collaboration and a commitment to preserving linguistic and cultural heritage. \u201cKORIKA promotes synergy among academics, researchers, engineers, and communities to create truly inclusive AI technologies\u2014systems that can listen, understand, and communicate across Indonesia\u2019s diverse local languages,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

OCOCOSDA Convenor Prof. Sakriani Sakti explained that the conference also serves as a platform for presenting the organization\u2019s annual activity report. \u201cCOCOSDA is highly active in Asia and continues to expand its connections with regional communities. This event is an opportunity to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and strengthen collaboration,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The three-day O-COCOSDA 2025 conference brought together researchers from 13 Asian countries. A total of 35 research papers and 21 scientific posters were presented, covering topics such as speech technology, acoustics, and linguistics. One of the keynote speakers, Prof. Dr. Suyanto, S.T., M.Sc., highlighted the importance of human-centered linguistic AI\u2014systems that not only understand language but also support its preservation so it remains vibrant and meaningful.<\/p>\n

At the end of the second day, a participant from India shared how inspired he felt after attending the sessions. He said he was grateful for the opportunity to join the conference. \u201cIt\u2019s truly remarkable to exchange insights and discuss the challenges we face. Knowing that others are dealing with similar issues\u2014and being able to share ideas and learn from what other researchers are doing\u2014has been incredibly valuable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
