The launch ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Koinonia Auditorium on the UKDW campus.

The inauguration of these two multidisciplinary centers was attended by university leaders, scholars from various fields, community figures, and partners from diverse sectors. The event marks a significant milestone for UKDW in actualizing its mission of delivering impactful, context-driven higher education.

UKDW Rector Dr.-Ing. Wiyatiningsih, S.T., M.T., emphasized that the establishment of the new centers aligns with the university’s vision to be a sustainable institution responsive to contemporary challenges.

“These are the third and fourth multidisciplinary research centers under the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), and they represent a new face of UKDW,” she said. “We see great potential to develop innovative solutions to humanity’s pressing issues through the integration of peace values and technological advancement.”

Dr. Freddy Marihot Rotua Nainggolan, Head of LPPM UKDW, underscored the distinctiveness of the two centers.

“PSPP is particularly timely given the ongoing conflicts around the world. We aim to produce research and engagement that extend beyond internal academic circles to reach national and international platforms. In today’s world, peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding are urgently needed,” he stated.

Although officially re-launched this year, the PSPP has roots dating back to 1986 and has long been a pioneering institution at UKDW. It has focused on cultivating a culture of peace grounded in theological and socio-cultural values within Indonesia’s diverse society. Now led by Rev. Dr. Jozef M.N. Hehanussa, M.Th., the center has re-emerged with renewed energy, positioned as a leading hub for peace-related research, education, and advocacy. With its multidisciplinary approach, PSPP aims to increase its visibility and contribute meaningfully to conflict resolution and sustainable peacebuilding efforts.

Meanwhile, the launch of CITACI reflects UKDW’s forward-looking stance in addressing the opportunities and challenges of modernity and digitalization.

In response to the rapid rise of technologies like augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), and the Metaverse, CITACI was established to deliver innovative and inclusive digital solutions. Led by Dr. Antonius Rachmat Chrismanto, S.Kom., M.Cs., the center brings together experts from information technology, design, architecture, healthcare, and economics. Its goal is to produce creative, relevant, and competitive digital content that resonates at both national and global levels.

Through the establishment of these two centers, UKDW reaffirms its role as an institution that not only excels academically but also actively engages with pressing social, technological, and humanitarian issues.
