Duta Voice, the student choir of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW), has once again made headlines by securing two gold medals at the Swara Saraswati II Festival 2025, held from February 12-16, 2025. This achievement comes shortly after their success at the 3rd Soegijapranata International Choir Competition. The Swara Saraswati II Festival, organized by the Vocalista Harmonic Student Choir of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, is a prestigious open competition featuring choir performances, solo vocal showcases, and composition contests. The event attracts top choir groups from across Indonesia, providing a platform for talented singers to showcase their skills.<\/p>\n
Representing UKDW, the 34-member Duta Voice ensemble, led by a single conductor, competed in two categories: Mixed Adult Choir and Folk Song Choir. In the Mixed Adult Choir category, they performed Ave Maria (arr. Joseph Rheinberger), I Love You (comp. McCook), and Fajar dan Senja (comp. Ken Steven). For the Folk Song Choir category, they presented Montor-Montor Cilik (arr. Poedji Soesila) and Cik Cik Periuk (arr. Bagus S. Utomo). Their captivating artistic interpretation and exceptional harmonization earned them gold medals in both categories, further solidifying their reputation as a high-caliber choir.<\/p>\n
This success was the result of three months of dedicated preparation, beginning in December 2024. Rehearsals were held five times a week, making the most of the semester break to enhance vocal technique and musicality. Choir members embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, committing themselves to intensive practice sessions that strengthened their stamina, refined their interpretations, and honed their overall performance. In addition to their musical preparations, the team also took the initiative to support their journey by organizing various fundraising activities. They held a pre-competition concert, which not only served as a rehearsal but also as a valuable opportunity to build confidence and share their passion for music with a wider audience.<\/p>\n
Choir coach Romadon Nur Huda, affectionately known as Kak Adon, acknowledged the difficulties faced during training, including finding practice venues, online rehearsals, and scheduling conflicts due to long holidays. Despite these challenges, he praised the team\u2019s dedication and potential, expressing hope that Duta Voice will continue to shine and rise to greater heights. Choir chairperson Putri Mangampa encouraged the team to keep pushing forward, hoping that members would not be discouraged by the rigorous process and would continue striving for excellence in future competitions.<\/p>\n
This latest achievement further cements Duta Voice\u2019s reputation as a leading university choir, demonstrating their dedication and excellence in choral music.
