On Monday, December 9, 2024, Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) and Lapas Narkotika Kelas IIA Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta Narcotics Detention Center) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing rehabilitation programs for inmates, making them more comprehensive and effective. The signing ceremony took place at the hall of Lapas Narkotika Kelas IIA Yogyakarta and was attended by representatives from the center\u2019s partners, the Directorate General of Corrections, the Head of the Community Involvement and Public Service Unit, and the Head of Public Relations. The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of DIY was also represented by the Head of the Correctional Development Division.<\/p>\n
In addition to UKDW, 12 other partners from Lapas Narkotika Kelas IIA Yogyakarta participated in the MoU signing, including Universitas Sanata Dharma, Universitas Sarjanawiyata Taman Siswa, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, the Yogyakarta Technical Education Training Center, the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries, Kodim 0732\/Sleman, the Surga Semarang Kingdom Family Foundation, Bintalroh NGO, LBH Sembada, Surya Anggraeni Psychology Center, Sleman Scout Branch, and Hamzah Batik. This MoU covers a wide range of programs, including skills training for inmates and educational initiatives designed to support their reintegration into society after serving their sentences.<\/p>\n
UKDW\u2019s Rector, Dr. -Ing. Wiyatiningsih, S.T., M.T., expressed that the collaboration marks a positive step toward supporting the rehabilitation and empowerment of inmates. \u201cAt Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana, we are honored to be part of this rehabilitation program. Through this partnership, we hope to contribute to bringing about positive change in the inmates, both in their personal development and in acquiring new skills,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The Head of Lapas Narkotika Kelas IIA Yogyakarta, Porman Siregar, emphasized the significance of collaborating with various institutions. \u201cThe signing of this MoU is a strategic step in enhancing our personality development and self-reliance programs for inmates,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
This MoU is expected to serve as the foundation for several collaborative programs that will benefit both parties and the wider community. UKDW remains committed to engaging in social issues, including the rehabilitation of inmates. Through this partnership, UKDW will provide educational programs that assist inmates in developing the skills and knowledge necessary for reintegration into society after completing their sentences.
