\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Research at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta, Dr. Rosa Delima, S.Kom., M.Kom., officially sent off 39 students to participate in the 2024\/2025 Thematic Community Service Program focused on urban waste management. With the theme \u201cCommunity Empowerment in Integrated Waste Processing and Management,\u201d the program was launched in Suryatmajan Village, Danurejan Subdistrict, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The program involves students from various departments, including Management, Accounting, Architecture, Product Design, Medicine, Informatics, Information Systems, and Biology.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Dr. Rosa emphasized that waste management is a shared responsibility, expressing hope for strong collaboration between the students and the local community. \u201cWe hope the programs designed by the students will benefit both the community and UKDW, while also enriching the students\u2019 learning experience. We extend our gratitude to Suryatmajan Village for welcoming our students and partnering with them. I urge the students to maintain professionalism and contribute positively to the local community,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Muhammad Hilkham, SAP, the head of Suryatmajan Village, thanked UKDW for selecting their area as a KKN site. He expressed hope that the students would help raise awareness and educate residents on proper waste management. \u201cAccording to the Yogyakarta City Environmental Agency, around 50 tons of waste\u2014mostly disposable diapers\u2014are being dumped into the Code River. This highlights the ongoing need for public education on waste management. We also hope the local community will actively support the programs initiated by the UKDW students,\u201d he remarked.
