“We are living in a VUCA world\u00a0<\/span>(Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity).\u00a0<\/span><\/em>The rapid-changing world of work and industry today is driven by the growth of information and communication technology. The growth of computing technology,\u00a0<\/span>artificial intelligence, robotics, internet of things, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/em>are gaining influence in the\u00a0<\/span>Industrial Revolution 4.0<\/span><\/em>. The higher education’s biggest challenge today is, how to prepare its students to face this era,” said the President of UKDW Dr. Henry Feriadi at the graduation ceremony on Saturday, November 30, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n Furthermore, he talked about ten skills needed to excel in the 21st century: complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, people management, coordinating with others, emotional intelligence, judgment and decision making, service orientation, negotiation, and cognitive flexibility. Among the list, academic skill is not mentioned explicitly. Instead, he emphasized on soft skills, such as character, attitude, emotional intelligence, teamwork, communication, negotiation, serve-oriented, etc. These soft skills are in line with the whole-person education concept in UKDW that accentuates spirituality \u2013 integrity \u2013 professionalism.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n After graduation, UKDW graduates are expected to continuously undergo self-development (spirituality, character, personality, attitude) and implement their skills and knowledge in the field they want to pursue. A piece of diploma certificate, academic transcript, and companion certificate can not automatically and instantly secure a job and success.
