UKDW Supports Yogyakarta’s 79th Anniversary Home Renovation Program
Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) is supporting a home renovation program launched as part of Yogyakarta’s 79th anniversary celebrations, contributing both funding and academic expertise to help provide safer and more livable homes for residents. The initiative is a collaboration between the Yogyakarta City Government and partners from the education and industry sectors.
The official handover ceremony for the 79th Anniversary Home Renovation Program was held on Sunday (June 7, 2026) in the Molkemis Alley area of Ngampilan, Yogyakarta. The event was attended by Yogyakarta Mayor Dr. (H.C.) dr. Hasto Wardoyo, Sp.OG (K), city government officials, representatives of supporting regional agencies, and partner organizations involved in the initiative.
As one of the program’s partners, UKDW is contributing to home renovation projects across the city. This year’s program will benefit ten households, including one in the Demangan area that is receiving support from the university.
UKDW Rector Dr.-Ing. Wiyatingsih, S.T., M.T. attended the ceremony and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to improving quality of life through community engagement programs that make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
Mayor Hasto Wardoyo expressed his appreciation for UKDW’s involvement in the initiative.
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to UKDW for attending the ceremonial handover of Home Renovation Assistance as part of the 79th Anniversary of the Yogyakarta City Government. I also thank UKDW for the strong partnership it has built with the City Government over the years,” he said.
Following the ceremony, Wiyatingsih, accompanied by representatives from the Yogyakarta Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), Demangan village officials, and members of the renovation program committee, visited the home of Sukmawati Herlina, the program beneficiary in Demangan. The visit provided an opportunity to assess the home’s condition and discuss renovation plans.
During the visit, Wiyatingsih emphasized that UKDW’s contribution extends beyond financial support to include academic and professional expertise.
“Today, we are delighted to meet Ms. Herlina and members of the Demangan community, who will work together to renovate her home so that it becomes more comfortable and suitable for living. UKDW is ready to contribute both financially and through the provision of housing designs that support healthier living conditions and make use of environmentally friendly recycled materials,” she said.
She noted that UKDW has academic resources that can help improve housing quality within the community. Through its Architecture and Product Design academic programs, the university is prepared to contribute ideas, technical assistance, and design solutions tailored to residents’ needs.
UKDW’s participation in the home renovation initiative reflects the university’s commitment to community service, one of the core missions of higher education. In addition to providing social support, the university is contributing expertise in architecture, product design, and sustainable development to help create safer, healthier, and better-quality homes.
Through its collaboration with the Yogyakarta City Government, UKDW hopes that more residents will benefit from the partnership between higher education institutions and local government in advancing inclusive and sustainable development that delivers tangible benefits to the community.
