Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) is opening applications for its Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program for the 2025/2026 academic year, offering an alternative pathway to higher education for individuals with relevant work experience, non-formal education, or incomplete university studies. The program allows applicants to continue their education without having to start from the beginning, acknowledging prior learning and professional experience as part of their academic journey.
The RPL admission pathway applies to six undergraduate programs: Accounting, Biology, Informatics, Information Systems, Architecture, and English Education. Registration will be open from February to May 2025. The initiative is intended to accommodate those who have acquired skills and knowledge outside formal education, providing them with an opportunity to have their experience recognized and counted toward a degree.
Eligible applicants include high school graduates who have at least two years of relevant work experience, individuals who previously enrolled in university but did not complete their studies, and professionals seeking formal academic recognition of their expertise. The admission process involves document submission and assessment of work experience, with verification steps that may include interviews or written tests. The university will evaluate each applicant’s prior learning to determine transferable academic credits, potentially reducing the number of required courses.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts to integrate professional experience into formal education, a policy that has been increasingly recognized as a means to improve access to higher education and workforce mobility. By allowing students to convert work experience into academic credit, the program provides a flexible route for professionals and non-traditional students to obtain degrees without repeating material they have already mastered in the workplace.
