YOGYAKARTA — The 2024 POMDA (Regional Student Sports Week) table tennis tournament officially began on Monday, December 2, at the Samapta Sports Hall, Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW). The event was attended by athletes, university representatives, and officials from BAPOMI DIY (the Regional Indonesian Student Sports Development Agency) and PTMSI DIY (the Regional Table Tennis Association). The opening ceremony also featured a lively performance by UKDW’s Duta Dance club.
BAPOMI DIY Chair Prof. Soni Nopembri, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., commended UKDW for hosting the event, ensuring its smooth execution. He emphasized that the competition is not only a platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills but also an opportunity to cultivate values like honesty, sportsmanship, and hard work.
“This tournament is not just about winning but about embracing the core principles of sports,” he stated, adding that the event doubles as a selection process for the National Student Sports Week (POMNAS), where DIY will compete at the national level.
PTMSI DIY General Chair Ir. Atmaji also expressed appreciation for the collaboration between BAPOMI DIY and UKDW. “We hope this tournament is a success, fostering talented athletes who will represent DIY on higher stages. PTMSI DIY remains open to partnerships for future table tennis events,” he said.
