Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta participated in the 18th General Assembly of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI), held from November 8 to 14, 2024, in Rantepao, Toraja. UKDW was represented by Rev. Dr. Frans Setyadi Manurung, M.Th., Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Theology, who highlighted the church’s vital role in addressing contemporary challenges. “At the 18th PGI General Assembly in Toraja, PGI calls on churches in Indonesia to be a light, promoting goodness, justice, and truth amidst the many challenges of life in Indonesia,” said Rev. Frans.
In this assembly, UKDW set up an information booth to give attendees, especially those from churches across Indonesia, the chance to learn more about the university and its academic programs.
UKDW’s involvement in the PGI General Assembly underscores the university’s commitment to supporting the church community in Indonesia. The event was seen as a key opportunity for UKDW to strengthen relationships with churches and Christian communities across the country, contributing to the development of an inclusive and sustainable society. UKDW’s participation also aligns with PGI’s vision of empowering the church as a force for social change.
The 18th PGI General Assembly, focused on unity and shared commitment, provided UKDW with an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about the church’s role in addressing global challenges. The university hopes its presence will foster stronger collaboration with stakeholders and help promote an education centered on justice, truth, and humanity. [penta/trans.drr]
