Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta officially sent off two students who will represent Indonesia at the 5th Asia Pacific Roots & Shoots Youth Summit in Taiwan. The pre departure meeting, held on November 1, 2024, at the Rev. Dr. Tasdik Seminar Room, was attended by UKDW’s Vice Rector for Human Resource Development, Promotion, and Networking, Rev. Wahju Satria Wibowo, Ph.D., alongside Dr. Phil. Lucia Dwi Krisnawati, S.S., M.A., Head of the Office of Partnerships and Public Relations.

     Joining the meeting were Matahari Bhakti Nendya, S.Kom., M.T., the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Promotion of the Faculty of Information Technology, and Dra. Haryati Sutanto, M.Sc., Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Promotion of the Faculty of Biotechnology.

     Valentina Rosa Rahawarin from the Information Systems Program and Edward Lie from the Biology Program were selected to speak at the summit, a platform for young leaders across the Asia-Pacific region. Centered on the theme “YOUth Green Leadership – It Starts with US!,” the summit will see the students engage with global peers to discuss critical environmental issues. Rosa’s presentation, Artificial Intelligence and Environmental Sustainability: Good or Gimmick?,critically exploring the environmental implications of AI technologies. Edward will present his project, Constructed Wetland Subsurface Waste Treatment Using Lime and Zeolite Adsorbent Media to Reduce Phosphate Content, highlighting innovative approaches to water treatment.

     During the ceremony, Rev. Wahju Satria encouraged the students to showcase UKDW’s spirit of leadership and innovation on an international stage. “Don’t hesitate to make new connections and share your experiences,” he advised. “This is a unique opportunity to broaden your perspective and shape how you view global issues.”

     The 5th Asia Pacific Roots & Shoots Youth Summit 2024, a collaboration between Chang Jung Christian University and the Jane Goodall Institute – Roots & Shoots (Asia Pacific), aims to inspire youth action for sustainable development.
