In a vibrant celebration of Indonesia’s cultural diversity, the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) hosted its annual event called “Gelar Budaya UKDW” on November 2-3, 2024, in front of the Koinonia Auditorium. Themed “Bahana Nusantara” with the tagline “Life Resonates with Culture,” the event spotlighted 12 Cultural Clubs (UKKb) showcasing traditions from across the Indonesian archipelago.

Key attendees included UKDW Rector Dr.-Ing. Wiyatiningsih, S.T., M.T.; Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, Information, and Innovation, Dr. Parmonangan Manurung, S.T., M.T., IAI; Head of the Office of Student Affairs, Alumni, and Career Development (Biro III), Mujiono, S.E., M.Sc.; and Kenaz Manuel Chris Natalino, Chair of Gelar Budaya 2024. The event also drew local residents, visitors to the MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) booths, and UKKb student members, creating a lively cultural gathering.

The showcase provides UKDW’s diverse student body an opportunity to present their cultural heritage through performances, crafts, and culinary traditions. The UKKb, composed of students from various regions, is dedicated to helping members remain connected to their cultural roots while fostering awareness among others. Dr. Wiyatiningsih commended the students for their dedication to preserving local cultural values amid modernization. “Each local culture remains an integral part of your identity,” she stated. “While circumstances and technology may change, UKDW students keep their cultural heritage alive.”

The event commenced with the Rector, Vice Rector, Head of Biro III, and the event chair striking a ceremonial gong. Attendees enjoyed a lineup of traditional dance, regional music, as well as culinary and artisanal displays, all reflecting the theme of “Bahana Nusantara.”

The “Life Resonates with Culture” tagline underscores Gelar Budaya UKDW’s mission to inspire students to embrace and celebrate their cultural heritage amid rapid societal changes. This annual gathering exemplifies BEM UKDW’s commitment to fostering unity and pride among students from across Indonesia. [Putri/trans.drr]
