A team from the Faculty of Information Technology (FTI) at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta clinched third place at the prestigious National AI-Driven Robotics Competition, organized by the Indonesia Artificial Intelligence Society (IAIS) in collaboration with PT Sari Teknologi. The event took place in Jakarta from October 24 to 27, 2024, drawing participants from top institutions, including BCA, Atma Jaya, Prasetiya Mulya (Prasmul), and PLN. Designed to promote AI innovation and data-driven business models, the competition challenged participants to address real-world applications of AI in today’s business landscape.

Competing teams were tasked with developing an AI-powered marketing application utilizing the intelligent robot camera “Ropi.” The UKDW team, composed of students Nicholas Dwinata, Nicholas Tanugroho, Beatrice Dwi Putri Rustandi, Amelia Putri Aftiana, and Debora Patricia Sharon Rembet, engineered an AI-based solution capable of tracking and counting viewers who engage with displayed ads. This capability allows businesses to measure campaign reach and effectiveness. The system further tailors ad content by detecting viewer demographics, including age and gender, thereby refining ad targeting. Key data such as unique face counts, age, gender, and emotional responses are automatically transmitted to an AWS RDS database, where it is analyzed to generate actionable business insights.

The UKDW team also developed an interactive data dashboard with visualizations like pie charts and integrated an ad upload form connected to AWS S3, enabling advertisers to customize ad content in alignment with viewer profiles. This innovative approach not only highlights the role of AI in ad personalization but also demonstrates the potential of AI to drive more precise and impactful marketing strategies.

Against formidable competition, including BCA and Prasetiya Mulya, who took first and second places respectively, the UKDW team delivered an impressive performance to secure their spot on the podium. This accomplishment serves as a proud milestone for UKDW, reflecting the institution’s dedication to cultivating forward-thinking, technology-driven innovation in alignment with emerging business trends.

“While we didn’t take first place, this experience has been incredibly rewarding,” said team member Amelia Putri Aftiana. “The competition provided us with invaluable insights into the application of AI in modern marketing. We’re committed to continuing our growth and innovation.”

The competition not only served as a competitive platform but also as a learning environment for students and professionals to collaborate and push the boundaries of technological innovation. Both IAIS and PT Sari Teknologi aim for this event to foster skilled talent ready to meet the demands of future business and technology challenges.

This achievement enhances UKDW’s standing as a leading institution for innovation and technological advancement, empowering students to succeed on the global stage. [FTI.Beatrice/trans.drr]
