Humanities Studies, the newest department at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW), continues to excel, maintaining a strong commitment to addressing humanitarian issues through interdisciplinary research and learning. As a program that combines social sciences and digital technology, Humanities Studies equips students to analyze the evolving digital needs of corporations and social advocacy efforts while crafting narratives that promote social equity through digital media in the new media era.
This was highlighted by Dra. Alviani Permata, M.Hum., Head of the Humanities Studies Department, during the Partnership Gathering held on Monday, September 9, 2024, in the Seminar Room of Rev. Dr. Harun Hadiwijono at UKDW. The event aimed to enhance collaboration between the Humanities Studies Department and its partners. Attendees were encouraged to engage in discussions, offer feedback, and explore potential joint initiatives with the program.
“We seek feedback from our partners to help us improve the quality of education in the Humanities Studies Department. We also hope this collaboration will continue to flourish, fostering mutual support and shared benefits,” said Alviani.
Dr. Rosa Delima, S.Kom., M.Kom., UKDW’s Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Research, emphasized that the gathering served as a platform for cooperation in developing impactful programs for both education and society. “This meeting reaffirms our commitment to collaborative learning, growth, and innovation, creating programs that will bring fresh advancements to education and technology as we look ahead to the future,” she stated.
The event was attended by a diverse group of partners, including the Young Interfaith Peacemaker Community (YIPC) Indonesia, SMA Bopkri 2 Yogyakarta, Youth Interfaith Forum on Sexuality (YIFoS Indonesia), Gramm Hotel by Ambarrukmo, Nayacita, Annisa Swasti Foundation (Yasanti), Semaya Studio, Organization of Nusantara Hope (OHANA) Indonesia, Yayasan Keluarga Besar Waria Yogyakarta (Kebaya Foundation) — an NGO in Yogyakarta dedicated to the well-being of the transgender community, Srikandi Lintas Iman (SRILI), Samsara, Mitra Wacana, the Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS), and GKJ Condongcatur.
During the discussions, a representative from the Kebaya Foundation expressed gratitude for the long-standing collaboration with the Humanities Studies Department, particularly acknowledging the program’s support in launching the smart trans school and hosting book discussions. “We deeply appreciate the guidance, especially in organizing our events so efficiently. Since the Humanities Studies Department was founded, we’ve received valuable support, from social media training to website development and advocacy for vulnerable groups. We hope this partnership continues, particularly in producing documentary content highlighting marginalized communities,” said Mama Rully, Deputy Director of the Kebaya Foundation.
The Partnership Gathering marks a significant step in building sustainable collaborations that foster innovation, advocacy, and social responsibility in both education and the digital space. [humasukdw/trans.drr]
