Antonia Namelia Wahyu Amumpuni, a student from the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta, has clinched 3rd place in the celebrated Puteri Proklamasi 2024 competition. The event, held to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, was organized by the Pancasila Citizens Association (PWP) DIY in partnership with the GKR Hemas Center and STIE SBI Yogyakarta.

In reflecting on her participation, Nia expressed her desire to be a model of strong nationalism. “I aim to be more than just a student who studies or participates in campus activities. I want to inspire my peers to achieve and embody a deep sense of nationalism,” she stated.

During the selection process, Nia highlighted the evolving meaning of freedom in the modern era. She emphasized that freedom involves balancing individual rights with responsibilities to society and the environment. “Freedom is not only about personal liberties but also about fulfilling our responsibilities and respecting others within a broader societal context,” she explained.

Nia also underscored the essential role of youth in advancing the nation’s ideals. “Young people are crucial in continuing the struggle for independence with their energy, creativity, and commitment. By embracing and contributing to the values of our independence, they can help safeguard and enhance our national goals,” she added.

She stressed that while Indonesian youth are increasingly engaged in national development, there are still challenges to be addressed. “Improving access to education and opportunities, and increasing youth involvement in decision-making, are vital steps to maximize their impact and ensure a brighter future for the nation,” Nia noted.

As she moves forward, Nia will continue her role as a representative of Putri Proklamasi DIY 2024, while prioritizing her studies at the Faculty of Medicine. [humasukdw/trans.drr]
