Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta launched two study centers, namely, the Center for Disability and Inclusive Design and the Center for Disaster Risk Management and Sustainable Development on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in the Rev. Dr. Rudy Budiman Lecture Hall.

The establishment of these two multidisciplinary study centers aligns with UKDW’s upgraded master development plan and vision, which aims to become an excellent, trustworthy, transformative, and sustainable Christian university. This vision focuses on the development of knowledge, technology, and a humanistic-cultural and adaptive generation in a pluralistic world. This was conveyed by Dr.-Ing. Wiyatiningsih, S.T., M.T., the Rector of UKDW.

“These two study centers are integral parts of UKDW, aiming to coexist harmoniously within a pluralistic world with its diversity. These centers are expected to provide beneficial impacts for friends with disabilities, inclusive groups, and the broader community. They also embody the core values of Duta Wacana, service to the world,” she explained.

Dr. Freddy Marihot Rotua Nainggolan, S.T., M.T., IAI, the Head of the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) at UKDW, stated that the formation of these multidisciplinary study centers stems from LPPM’s commitment to providing a platform that facilitates cross-disciplinary collaboration, combining strengths from various fields to address the complex challenges of our time.

“LPPM has identified two strong areas of research and community service activities: those related to inclusivity and disaster management. We hope that research, community service, scientific development, and studies related to inclusivity and disaster management will continue to grow. Through UKDW, we can contribute knowledge to Indonesia and the international community,” he stated. [humasukde/trans.drr]
