Six students, members of the Taekwondo Student Club at  Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta, have once again demonstrated their prowess at the national level. Competing in the 2024 Pangkostrad Cup Taekwondo Championship held at the Ciracas Sports Hall in East Jakarta from May 9-12, 2024, the Taekwondo Team of UKDW secured an impressive haul of two gold medals and four silver medals.

The gold medalists included Justin Beltzasar Alfin Reza, a student majoring in Management, who triumphed in the Senior Men’s U54kg Kyorugi category, and Kherubima Estephanosa Arun, a student majoring in Divinities Study, who excelled in the Senior Women’s Poomsae category. The silver medals were won by Steven Michael Arbyanto and Bintang Holy Junior, both Divinities Study majors, in the Senior Men’s Poomsae category, Yeheskiel Yunus Tame, an Informatics major, in the Senior Men’s U54kg Kyorugi category, and Valentina Rosa Rahawarin, another Divinities Study major, in the Senior Women’s U57kg Kyorugi category.

Yeheskiel Yunus Tame, a silver medalist, shared that this championship marked his first experience competing outside the Yogyakarta Special Region. “I found the competition system to be quite different and more challenging. We faced highly skilled athletes, including those from regional and national training centers,” Yeheskiel noted.

Steven Michael Arbyanto, the President of the UKDW Taekwondo Club, mentioned that this was the second championship the team had attended in Jakarta. “Our journey was full of challenges as we faced formidable opponents, many of whom were under regional, national, or even military training. This championship provided valuable experiences for the UKDW Taekwondo Team,” he concluded. [SMA/Eng.drr]
