Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta recently hosted an enlightening event dedicated to enhancing insights and creativity in the field of education through the Learning Methods Workshop. Conducted by the Institute of Academic Development and Learning Innovation (LPAIP), the workshop took place on Friday, March 1, 2024, in Rev. Dr. Harun Hadiwijono Seminar Room at UKDW.
The event featured the presence of the Vice-Rector for Academic and Research (WR 1), Dr. Rosa Delima, S.Kom., M.Kom, who emphasized the significance of evolving learning methods as a strategic initiative to elevate the overall quality of education at UKDW. Expressing the routine nature of the workshop organized by LPAIP, she encouraged participants to incorporate the insights gained into their classroom practices. “It is hoped that we can all utilize this as a beneficial practice to diversify our teaching methodologies,” she stated.
Dr. Hongki Julie M.Sc., the first speaker from Sanata Dharma University (USD), focused on the essential skills required by students to thrive in the 21st century. Dr. Julie highlighted the effectiveness of the Flipped Classroom as a dynamic learning strategy. This innovative approach blends face-to-face instruction with online independent learning, fostering direct interaction between educators and students while promoting independent learning.
Simultaneously, Hendra Sigalingging, S.S., M. Hum., from UKDW’s Humanities Studies Department, delved into dynamic teaching methods that facilitate easy retention for students. Emphasizing the significance of roleplay and game-based learning, Hendra underscored their role in sustaining student interest, maintaining focus, and solidifying comprehension of the presented material.
The event garnered enthusiastic participation from lecturers across various study programs at UKDW, who eagerly sought new perspectives and shared their experiences in developing innovative learning methods. Interactive discussions and Q&A sessions enriched participants’ understanding of effective learning strategies.
