Four students from Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta, members of the Taekwondo Student Club of UKDW, achieved success at the DKI Jakarta Taekwondo League Series-6, held at Kopassus headquarters, GOR NANGGALA in Cijantung, East Jakarta. This event, a talent search for young Taekwondo athletes organized by the DKI Jakarta Taekwondo Provincial Management, took place from January 19 to 21, 2024.

In their first competition in 2024, the UKDW Taekwondo team secured four medals. Justin Beltzasar Alfin Reza won a gold medal in the Senior Men’s Kyourugi U54kg class, Steven Michael Arbyanto secured gold in the Men’s Senior Poomsae class, and Bintang Holy Junior earned gold in another Men’s Senior Poomsae class. Kherubima Estephanosa Arun clinched a silver medal in the Senior Women’s Poomsae class.

Bintang Holy Junior, one of the gold medalists, stated joining the DKI Jakarta Taekwondo League Series-6 Championship was a valuable experience, not only for winning medals but also for enjoying the training process with friends at the Taekwondo club. “Certainly, this process personally introduced me to the world of Taekwondo sports and fostered camaraderie within the club,” said Bintang.

After the pandemic, this championship marked the first match held outside DIY, attended by the Taekwondo team from UKDW. This showcases the continual progress of the UKDW Taekwondo team in facing every championship. UKDW Taekwondo team is also striving to continue participating in championships organized by the Indonesian Taekwondo Provincial Management outside the DIY region in the upcoming months. [sma/Eng.drr]
