The Faculty of Architecture and Design of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (FAD UKDW) Yogyakarta officially collaborated with the Fine Arts and Design Department of the Indonesian Arts and Culture Institute (ISBI) Tanah Papua as the Memorandum of Agreement between the two higher education institutions was signed on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. The agreement was signed by Dr. Imelda Irmawati Damanik, S.T., M.A.(UD) (the Dean of FAD UKDW) and Bayu Aji Suseno, M.Sn., (the Head of the Fine Arts and Design Department of ISBI Tanah Papua).

Also attending the event were Putri Prabu Utami, M.S. (lecturer at ISBI Tanah Papua’s Arts Crafts Department), Dr.-Ing. Ir. Winarna, M.A. (Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FAD UKDW), Winta Tridhatu Satwikasanti, S.Ds., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Head of Product Design Department of UKDW), Linda Octavia, S.T., M.T. (Head of Architecture Department of UKDW), Christian Nindyaputra Octarino, S.T., M.Sc. (Vice Deanf for Financial Affairs of FAD UKDW), Adimas Kristiadi, S.T., M.Sc. (Vice Dean for Student Affairs of FAD UKDW), and lecturers at UKDW’s Product Design Department.

In his speech, Dr. Imelda Irmawati Damanik, S.T., M.A.(UD) pointed out the importance of this collaboration amid the increasing challenge in the field of education as the implementation of the tri dharma is expected to be multidisciplinary. “This collaboration expects not only to touch the field of research and publications, but hopefully, it will get to IPR and patents,” she said.

Meanwhile, Winta Tridhatu Satwikasanti, S.Ds., M.Sc., Ph.D. explained that the UKDW Product Design Department has a vision to deliver a generation of independent professionals in the field of product design to create a sustainable environment based on justice, equality, and love. “The learning curriculum scheme is divided into four stages, i.e. design foundation, design exploration, design thinking, and design methods. Regarding the graduate profile, we have mapped it into four, namely design entrepreneur, product designer, craft designer, and design researcher,” she added.

Bayu Aji Suseno, M.Sn. expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome given by FAD UKDW for the cooperation that has been established. He also said that he had previously collaborated with Winta Adhitia Guspara, S.T., M.Sn., one of the lecturers in UKDW’s Product Design Department, in a joint research related to making products from tree bark.
