UKDW Sends Students to Taiwan Through the GlobEES 2026 Program
Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) sent six students to Taiwan to participate in the Global Education Experiences (GlobEES) 2026 program at Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) from May 5–15, 2026. The program reflects UKDW’s commitment to strengthening students’ international exposure through cross-cultural learning and global collaboration.
GlobEES 2026 is a collaborative initiative involving UKDW, Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU), and Universitas kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW). This year’s program was held under the theme “Local Action for Environmental Sustainability: Learning Together in Taiwan,” focusing on environmental sustainability, cultural exchange, and global learning.
The UKDW delegation consisted of Marcell Jureinwi Manuhutu and Benedictina Andhika Chinor Jodie Soesila (Informatics), Henry Yohanes Santoso (Information Systems) Program, Ester Nurhana Kusumawati and Dennys Kurniawan Palinoan (English Language Education Program), and Angelina Vivi Maharani (Medicine). The students were led by Dianti Resti Risanti from UKDW’s Office of Partnerships and Public Relations.
During the opening ceremony at CJCU Hall, CJCU President Huey-Min Sun welcomed participants to GlobEES 2026 and emphasized the value of international programs in providing students with opportunities to learn directly through engagement with communities, cultures, and environments beyond their own countries.
According to Sun, the partnership between CJCU and its Indonesian partner universities plays an important role in fostering international friendship while encouraging a shared commitment to a more sustainable future.
Representing UKDW, Dianti Resti Risanti expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and support provided by CJCU and its Office of Global Engagement. She noted that GlobEES offers a valuable learning environment where UKDW students can broaden their global perspectives while gaining firsthand insight into sustainability practices in Taiwan.
“GlobEES is more than just a short-term program. It provides a learning space beyond the classroom where students exchange ideas, experience new cultures, and build meaningful international connections,” she said.
Throughout the program, UKDW students participated in a variety of academic and experiential learning activities. These included Mandarin language classes, discussions with CJCU students, and sustainability-themed workshops designed to deepen participants’ understanding of environmental issues from both local and global perspectives.
Students also took part in educational visits to elementary schools and the Alishan region to learn about University Social Responsibility (USR) projects. During these visits, participants explored initiatives focused on preserving the cultural heritage of Taiwan’s Indigenous communities, including the Tsou people.
Beyond the academic program, students visited the cities of Tainan and Kaohsiung, where they observed aspects of daily life in Taiwan, including urban culture, public transportation systems, and social and environmental dynamics.
The program also served as a platform for promoting Indonesian culture internationally. During a cultural sharing session, Indonesian participants introduced traditional songs, regional dances, and traditional attire to CJCU students. The event strengthened connections among participants while showcasing Indonesia’s rich cultural diversity to the international community.
Through participation in GlobEES 2026, UKDW continues to expand international learning opportunities for its students while preparing graduates with global perspectives, intercultural competence, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
