UKDW Hosts Communication and Motivation Sharing Session Featuring Dr. Aqua Dwipayana
Opening the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW), Yogyakarta hosted a Communication and Motivation Sharing Session with nationally recognized communication expert and motivator Dr. Aqua Dwipayana. The two-day program was held on Thursday–Friday (January 29–30, 2026) at the Koinonia Auditorium, UKDW.
The event served as a moment of reflection and renewed motivation for UKDW faculty members and staff as they prepare for academic activities in the semester ahead. Through this initiative, UKDW reaffirmed its commitment to cultivating a healthy, collaborative work culture grounded in service.
In her opening address, UKDW Rector Dr. Ing. Winyatiningsih stated that the sharing session provided a valuable opportunity to align the entire academic community at the start of the semester.
“As we prepare to resume academic activities, it is important to reflect on how communication is practiced in responding to future challenges. Communication is a key element in building relationships, both within the institution and with external stakeholders,” she said.
The Rector expressed her hope that Dr. Aqua Dwipayana’s session would help members of the UKDW academic community better understand and address communication challenges that commonly arise in daily professional interactions.
The theme “Optimizing Communication Skills to Enhance Service Quality” was considered highly relevant to the daily responsibilities of the UKDW academic community, which is committed to serving with compassion, professionalism, and Christian values.
In his presentation, Dr. Aqua Dwipayana emphasized the crucial role of communication in shaping service quality. He noted that effective service is inseparable from the ability to communicate clearly, thoughtfully, and humanely in the workplace. Communication, he explained, should not be seen merely as the transmission of information, but as a means of building mutual understanding, trust, and healthy working relationships.
He further explained that the application of effective and strategic communication techniques is essential to improving efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out institutional responsibilities. Comprehensive communication helps minimize misunderstandings, facilitates coordination, and strengthens collaboration both among individuals and across organizational units.
Dr. Aqua also underscored the importance of maintaining a balance between internal and external communication. Open and respectful internal communication fosters a positive and productive work environment, while professional external communication reflects UKDW’s institutional values, credibility, and public image.
By practicing communication rooted in empathy, openness, and mutual respect, services to students and all stakeholders are expected to become more effective, meaningful, and impactful.
The Communication and Motivation Sharing Session was conducted in four sessions over the two-day period and was attended by UKDW faculty members and staff as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen communication and service excellence across the university.
Through this initiative, UKDW continues to affirm its identity as an academic community that upholds Christian values, professionalism, and a people-centered approach to service. Strengthening communication and motivation is expected to serve as a foundation for building a respectful, collaborative work environment that delivers meaningful impact for students, the church, and the wider community.
