The Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) held a formal oath-taking and induction ceremony for its 33rd cohort of newly qualified medical doctors on Saturday, January 11, 2025. The event, held at the Koinonia Auditorium, UKDW, carried the theme To be Useful, To be Honorable, emphasizing the dedication, integrity, and professionalism required in the medical profession.

A total of 80 doctors were inducted, achieving an impressive 94% first-attempt pass rate in the National Medical Licensing Examination (UKMPPD), the standardized test for medical graduates in Indonesia. The oath-taking ceremony was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. The Maria Meiwati Widagdo, Ph.D. In her address, she encouraged the newly inducted doctors to commit to lifelong learning and uphold the highest ethical and professional standards in their medical practice.

One of the newly inducted doctors, Dr. Vallentino Ardine Prasetya Bisay, expressed gratitude for this milestone and affirmed his dedication to serving the community with integrity. Similarly, Dr. Lilik Setyawan, MPH, speaking on behalf of the parents, urged the new doctors to remain committed to their profession and continuously strive for excellence.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including UKDW Rector, Dr.-Ing. Wiyatiningsih, S.T., M.T., Director of Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta, Dr. Edy Wibowo, Sp.M., MPH, and President of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) Yogyakarta Chapter, Dr. Tri Kusumo Bawono, SE.

In his speech, Dr. Edy Wibowo emphasized the importance of ongoing medical education and urged the new doctors to become the salt of the earth, upholding the core values of Duta Wacana in their service to the community. Meanwhile, Dr. Tri Kusumo Bawono encouraged the inductees to not only excel in their clinical practice but also take an active role in professional medical organizations to advance their careers.

Several academic excellence awards were presented during the event. Dr. Irene Feliciana Suhardi received the award for highest academic achievement in clinical training, while Dr. Nathania Fadjarsugeng Surohardjo was recognized for achieving the highest combined GPA in pre-clinical and clinical training. The award for the top scorer in the November 2024 National Medical Licensing Examination (UKMPPD) was presented to Dr. Fergiela Rahel Sampelintin.

This event was more than just a formal induction; it served as a profound reminder of the responsibility that comes with being a physician.
