Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta has been selected to host the Table Tennis Tournament as part of the POMDA – Pekan Olahraga Mahasiswa Daerah (Regional Student Sports Week) for the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), organized by BAPOMI, a national body that promotes student sports development through regional and national competitions. The competition will take place on December 2–3, 2024, at the UKDW Samapta Sports Hall and will feature participants from 17 universities across DIY.

Wahyu Sapto Dewonugroho, S.Kom., Chair of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the significance of POMDA in nurturing athletic talent and encouraging regional achievements. “The Student Sports Week provides a platform for developing athletes during their golden years, preparing them for success at national and international levels. POMDA also serves as a selection process for the POMNAS – Pekan Olahraga Mahasiswa Nasional (National Student Sports Week),” he explained.

POMNAS is a nationwide multi-sport competition held regularly for university students by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs in collaboration with BAPOMI.

“BAPOMI consistently partners with universities to organize tournaments across various sports. This year, UKDW is honored to host the Table Tennis Tournament for the Regional Student Sports Week,” Wahyu added.

The tournament will feature three categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, and men’s doubles. Participants will compete for regional recognition while showcasing their potential for national success.

The 2024 POMDA Table Tennis Tournament provides a platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills and achieve competitive milestones, serving as a stepping stone for those aspiring to represent DIY at the 2025 POMNAS.

Dr. Parmonangan Manurung, S.T., M.T., IAI, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, Information, and Innovation at UKDW, highlighted the importance of the event.

“POMDA BAPOMI DIY 2024 is a crucial event for university students in the Yogyakarta region. We hope this tournament will produce talented athletes who will shine on the national stage, bringing pride to DIY at the National Student Sports Week in 2025,” he stated.

The event underscores UKDW’s commitment to fostering athletic excellence and supporting student development through sports. [humasukdw/trans.drr]
