Yohanes Satyayoga Raniasta, S.T., M.Sc., a lecturer from the Architecture Department at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta, and his team earned 2nd place at the prestigious International Trade Fair Ideas-Inventions-New Product (IENA). The event, organized by AFAG Messen und Ausstellungen GmbH in partnership with the Deutsches Patent- und Markenamt, the International Federation of Inventors Associations (IFIA), Hack & Make (The Creativity and Technology Festival), Deutscher Erfinder-Verband e.V., and the Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA), celebrates global innovation in various fields.
This year marked the 75th anniversary of IENA, which has become a key international platform for innovators worldwide. Yohanes Satyayoga and his team participated in the Invention A01 category (Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Hunting, Trapping, Fishing), within the subcategory of University Inventions.
“Our submission included a detailed description of the idea, presented through a poster, video, and model,” he ****explained. “The initial selection was made based on the softcopy submissions, and the finalists were then invited to the IENA finals in Nuremberg, Germany. Entries were judged on innovation novelty, applicability, and commercialization potential. The competition featured two judging stages: the first was an asynchronous curation process based on the submitted files, and the second involved a live presentation to the jury.”
Yohanes Satyayoga’s team introduced their project, titled “IA-24 Smart Farding (Farm Building),” a concept for hydroponic urban farming based on IoT. It focuses on repurposing limited urban spaces—such as leftover areas or unused buildings—for agricultural use.
“This smart farming concept supports a range of urban farming activities, from seed production and IoT-based vegetable cultivation to building quality management and packaging. All processes are automated using IoT technology,” he said. [humasukdw/trans.drr]
