Health-related issues are increasingly important and widely discussed today. Numerous health-focused events are being organized, and in this spirit, the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (FK UKDW) held a Medical Expo on October 5-6, 2024, at Plaza Ambarukmo, Yogyakarta.

Dr. Pradita Sri Mitasari, Vice Dean III and Chairperson of the 15th Anniversary Committee of FK UKDW, explained that the expo aimed to highlight the educational activities at FK UKDW. “The expo was designed to showcase a variety of initiatives and achievements of FK UKDW through exhibition booths representing student organizations, research centers, and alumni networks. The booths featured activities such as demonstrations from the pathology and anatomy lab, biochemistry lab, clinical skills lab, as well as blood glucose testing. Additionally, there was a pharmacology booth where visitors could try making ointments and traditional herbal remedies,” stated Dr. Mitasari on Sunday (Oct 6, 2024).

She added that the event’s theme was Integrity in Diversity: Celebrating 15 Years of Unity and Excellence. Various community engagement activities were included, such as a blood donation drive. “As part of our community service efforts, we encouraged visitors to donate blood. Our target was 100 donors, and 109 people participated. Moreover, we hosted a series of health-related talk shows, covering topics like mental health, dermatology, and forensic anatomy,” Mita added.

One of the highlight sessions was the forensic anatomy talk show, presented by Dr. Stephanie Renni Anindita, a new faculty member known for her content on forensic science. “Dr. Stephanie recently joined FK UKDW, and in her talk show, she introduced various forensic cases, explaining the scientific principles behind them,” she continued.

Dr. Stephanie expressed her hope that the event would increase public awareness of medical science. “The talk show focused on forensic science and its application in legal investigations and judicial processes. Forensics isn’t just about examining deceased individuals; it also involves reviewing medical records, assessing potential cases of medical malpractice, and understanding medical law,” concluded Dr. Stephanie.
