Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta recently held a Doctoral Dissemination and Educational Reflection event on August 14, 2024, at the Rev. Dr. Harun Hadiwijono Seminar Room. This event, part of UKDW’s 62nd anniversary celebrations, provided a platform for enriching the knowledge of the university’s academic community and fostering opportunities for research collaboration across various disciplines.
UKDW Rector Dr.-Ing. Wiyatiningsih, S.T., M.T., emphasized the significance of the event in allowing faculty to present their research, which aligns with the university’s commitment to integrating research into its core educational pillars. “UKDW is dedicated to lifelong learning, which involves continuous growth beyond a single point,” she stated.
The dissemination featured presentations from Antonius Rachmat, Halim Budi Santoso, and Paulus Widiatmoko. Antonius Rachmat discussed his research on “Spam Content Detection on Social Media Using an Attention-Based LSTM-CNN Model and Emoji Features,” which led to the development of a web service and browser extension for direct user application.
Halim Budi Santoso presented his work on “Virtual Reality and Cultural Heritage Museum: The Role of Thermal Stimuli, Narratives, and Modality Interactivity,” contributing to both theoretical and practical understanding of virtual tourism and consumer behavior.
Paulus Widiatmoko’s research, “EFL Teacher ICT Cognition and Its Use to Facilitate Language Learning,” explored how teachers employ technology and innovate in their teaching methods, as well as their use of digital learning materials while adhering to established guidelines.
The Educational Reflection session featured Purnawan Hardiyanto, Mega Wati, MM Suryani Hutomo, and Parmonangan Manurung. Hardiyanto’s reflection, “Interpreting the Role of Educators,” highlighted the importance of upholding values of truth in educational responsibilities. Mega Wati discussed “The Role of Lecturers in Education,” urging educators to impact the lives of young people significantly. Purnawan Hardiyanto addressed “The Urgency of Deregulation and Debureaucratization in Indonesian Education: Reflections on 62 Years of UKDW,” while Suryani Hutomo explored “Education: From Practitioner to Educator,” stressing the need for educators to be well-prepared and to build strong communication and collaboration.
