The Faculty of Education and Humanities (FKHUM) at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta recently organized an open house event titled “Fun with FKHUM” on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. This event aimed to familiarize high school students in Yogyakarta with the two departments within FKHUM: the English Language Education Department and the Humanities Studies Department.
Agnes Valentina, President of the FKHUM Student Executive Board (BEM), highlighted the significance of this event in providing high school attendees with knowledge about the English Education and Humanities Studies Departments. Attendees could gain insights into the offered courses and academic opportunities through direct interactions with faculty members and students.
Moreover, the open house served as a platform for both high school and FKHUM students to showcase their talents. “The event features various performances such as dance, musical bands, and poetry recitations. We hope this engagement will inspire students to pursue their passions and consider enrolling in FKHUM’s program,” Agnes said.
Dr. R. Bima Adi, Dean of FKHUM, commended the event’s organization and the enthusiastic participation of attendees. Dr. Parmonangan Manurung, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, Information, and Innovation, highlighted UKDW’s vast array of student clubs and associations. “UKDW students have the opportunity not only to foster their academic skills but also soft skills through participation in various student organizations and activities,” he explained.
The English Language Education curriculum at UKDW emphasizes three key areas: English for Specific Purposes, technology-enhanced instruction, and intercultural competence. Additionally, it integrates Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka activities to equip students with the necessary skills for the professional realm.
Conversely, the Humanities Studies Department offers a multidisciplinary approach, providing students with theoretical and practical insights into humanities-related topics in the digital age. Graduates are expected to analyze digital world needs for both corporate and social advocacy purposes.
This open house event reflects FKHUM UKDW’s commitment to providing holistic educational experiences that prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of today’s world. [humasukdw/trans.drr]
