The LPKKSK (Campus Ministry) at Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta organized its annual foundational counseling and psychoeducation training for academic advisors on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Pdt. Harun Hadiwijono Seminar Room. The theme, “Sharing Feelings to Build Trust,” focused on addressing the prevalent mental health issues among students today.
The aim was to enhance awareness and sensitivity among academic advisors, enabling them to offer better guidance and act as a support system for students dealing with difficulties or challenges that may impact their university studies. The speakers included dr. Mahar Agusno, Sp.KJ(K), a seasoned psychiatrist in mental health, and dr. Lucas Nando Nugraha, M.Biomed., a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine UKDW as well as counselor, and a mindfulness practitioner.
During the first session, dr. Mahar Agusno, Sp.KJ(K), educated the advisors on mental health phenomena among younger generations, suicide prevention, and vital information to combat societal stigmas around mental health issues. In the subsequent session, dr. Lucas Nando Nugraha, M.Biomed., covered counseling techniques, role-play, and self-management using mindfulness, all beneficial for advisors in their student support roles.
Each session ended with lively discussions among participants and speakers, showcasing enthusiasm through numerous insightful questions and in-depth exchanges. The outcomes and feedback suggest a wealth of new ideas and critical topics concerning student psychological experiences, promising valuable discussions in future training sessions.
