Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta hosted the inaugural Leadership Series #1 on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Koinonia Auditorium UKDW. This event was held to cultivate, inspire, and empower leaders within UKDW, strengthening the foundation of leadership on campus.
Under the theme “Forming Future Leaders,” the event featured Irjen. Pol. Purn. Y Wahyu Saronto, Expert Staff of the Strategic Analysis Council (DAS) at the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), as the keynote speaker. With extensive experience in security and strategic analysis, Irjen. Pol. Purn. Y Wahyu Saronto was the ideal choice to shed light on the demands and challenges of leadership in the contemporary era.
In his address, Rev. Dr. Wahju Satria Wibowo, Vice-Rector for HR Capacity Development, Promotion, and Networking at UKDW, emphasized UKDW’s commitment to continually refining and broadening the understanding of leadership. “This is crucial given the rapid pace of global development and the challenges that necessitate leaders who can think swiftly and make effective decisions,” he noted.
During his presentation, Irjen. Pol. Purn. Y Wahyu Saronto underscored several essential qualities future leaders must possess. “Creativity, innovation, courage, and in-depth analytical skills are indispensable in modern leadership. A leader must delve beyond surface-level insights, grasp social, political, and cultural dynamics, and possess the ability to make bold and sound decisions,” he elaborated.
Irjen. Pol. Purn. Y Wahyu Saronto stressed the importance of cultivating a young generation equipped with creativity, innovation, and the courage to challenge outdated norms. He also emphasized the significance of decisive decision-making and accurate data analysis in effective leadership.
Furthermore, Irjen. Pol. Purn. Y Wahyu Saronto highlighted the necessity for leaders to demonstrate unwavering commitment to those they lead, offering support, guidance, and direction with consistency and adaptability. Additionally, he urged UKDW to reflect on its mission and establish a clear strategic direction to fulfill its responsibilities. “Today, the challenge lies not only in competition but in developing innovations that are pertinent to our times,” he remarked.
This event served as a pivotal platform for UKDW to contemplate the values it champions and instill them in campus leaders.
