Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW)’s Taekwondo Student Club continues to build on its legacy of success, demonstrating its prowess at the Prabu Taekwondo Challenge 7 Championship. The team, represented by four skilled UKDW students, emerged victorious with an outstanding achievement of 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal. This prestigious national-level Taekwondo Championship, organized by the Prabu Taekwondo Dojang and the Banten Indonesia Taekwondo Province Management, took place at Bonang Stadium Indoor GOR (Venue Prapon) in Tangerang, Banten from March 1 to 3, 2024.

The gold medalists include Justin Beltzasar Alfin Reza (Management) in the Senior Men’s Kyourugi U54kg category, Bintang Holy Junior (Divinity Study) in the Men’s Senior Poomsae discipline, and Kherubima Estephanosa Arun (Divinity Study) in the Women’s Senior Poomsae division. Additionally, Steven Michael Arbyanto (Divinity Study) secured a silver medal in the Men’s Senior Poomsae class.

Reflecting on the Prabu Taekwondo Challenge 7 Championship, Kherubima Estephanosa Arun, one of the gold medalists, shared her sentiments. She described the event as a memorable experience, marking her second participation in a match where she clinched a gold medal. Beyond individual achievements, Arun emphasized the profound sense of camaraderie within the team. Every moment, whether challenging or joyous, was collectively shared. Arun stressed that winning the medal wasn’t merely an individual triumph but a victory for the entire team. She dedicated the medal to the team, the university, and all supporting entities that played a pivotal role in making this competitive experience a reality.

This championship represents the second instance where the UKDW Taekwondo Team has ventured outside DIY for a competition. The team, meticulously prepared for any championship, has solidified its reputation as a formidable force. Furthermore, the UKDW Taekwondo club is actively pursuing its goal of participating in competitions beyond the regional scope, with aspirations to compete on the international stage.
