Korean Corner UKDW appeared enthusiastic at the Jogja Korean Festival, an event organized by students from the Faculty of Information Technology (FTI) Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta on December 9, 2023. Ms. Choi Ji Hye from Korean Corner, also known as Ms. Bona, was the speaker in the talkshow session. She is a volunteer from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Korean Corner also brought hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) for visitors to try. This Korean festival is open to the public and features various events, including the introduction of UKM Taekwondo, mukbang competitions, and K-pop dance cover performances.

Korean Corner was established to promote understanding about South Korea. It was officially opened in October 2023. If you want to visit Korean Corner, the office is in front of the UKDW Library. It opens Monday-Friday 09.00 – 15.00. The Corner is structurally part of the Language Training Center (PPB UKDW). Apart from holding Korean Language Courses in the first term of the 2023/2024 Academic Year, Korean Language Elective Subject (MKP) classes will be opened in the upcoming semester.

When asked about the similarities and differences between Korea and Indonesia, Ms. Bona said, “Everyone in this world is the same, even though they have different appearances and languages. I think that is the similarity. The difference lies in the higher preference for spicy food, although Koreans also like spicy food.” She concluded by saying that when someone learns Korean, they will feel the sensation of being like Koreans. Therefore, Ms. Bona wants to study Indonesian more deeply to understand Indonesian people’s character better. [humasukdw/Eng.drr]
