Dr. phil. Lucia Dwi Krisnawati, a lecturer at Informatics Department of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta was invited as the speaker in the Artificial Intelligence Webinar conducted by SMA Putra Nirmala Cirebon on April 20, 2021. This webinar aimed to introduce artificial intelligence which is becoming a trend today and to enrich students’ knowledge in the field of information technology.
In this webinar, the students of SMA Putra Nirmala were invited to engage in a discussion on what they think and know about artificial intelligence. Lucia then explained that artificial intelligence (AI) is a human-made entity that able to do tasks without being given an explicit command, and able to think and act rationally. AI is a branch of computer science that simulates human intelligence in a machine. “The main principles to develop AI systems are reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, communication, perception, and the ability to move and manipulate objects,” she explained.
Furthermore, Lucia explained that AI classification includes natural language processing, computer vision, control methods, and search methodologies. She also shared about some of UKDW students’ final projects with the topic of AI, such as developing smart water dispensers, central control systems and AC scheduling, and surveillance systems for security.
In this webinar, Enesmi Clarita, a final-year student at Informatics Department of UKDW also shared about her final project. She is currently developing a chatbot application called Pigo Bot, an AI-based application that can simulate conversations like a human. Pigo Bot is designed to be able to give fast and relevant responses to the questions about student admission at UKDW.
