According to Willy Sudiarto Raharjo, S.Kom., M.Cs. (the Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships of the Faculty of Information Technology), the AWS DeepRacer Women’s League is a chance for female students to apply machine learning principles to AWS’s cloud-based 3D car simulator called AWS DeepRacer. Principally, this competition contests students’ ability to create a mathematical model to control an object (virtual car), using artificial intelligence to get the fastest time to round a lap on a virtual circuit. “This event is held for the first time by Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) in the Southeast Asia region. Under normal conditions, this event is usually held offline, but due to the COVID-19 situation, this year, this event is held online. This event was part of a bigger event, namely Build On, ASEAN 2020,” he said.

Thailand became the opening country for the AWS DeepRacer Women’s League virtual championship on August 1, 2020. A week later, the virtual racing was held in Malaysia on August 8, 2020, then in Indonesia on August 15, 2020. Next, the virtual racing was carried out in the Philippines on August 22, 2020, and in Singapore on August 29, 2020. Finally, the grand final will be held in September 2020.
