
UKDW Thematic Service Learning Program: Developing Kampung Sayur Bausasran

The President of Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana (UKDW) Yogyakarta, Dr. Henry Feriadi dispatched 27 students to join Thematic Service Learning Program in Bausasran Village. Being held from January 6 – February 19, 2019, this program is managed by the Faculty of Biotechnology.
In the ceremony taking place at Balai RW Bausasran, Dr. Feriadi expressed his support to the service-learning program as a synergy between government, community, and UKDW. “We hope this program can support Gandeng Gendong program, an endeavor for community development that engages campus, kampong, community, cooperative, and city, planned by Yogyakarta government and projected as a role model for the next Service Learning Program,” he said.
Drs. Djoko Rahardjo, M.Kes as the program coordinator stated that this batch, the Service Learning Program brought the theme “The Development of Kampung Sayur Bausasran towards Food-Independent Village and Urban Ecotourism”.
“The programs will be focused on farming group organizational coaching and human resource development in agriculture, waste management, and fertilizer making. Besides, students will be assisting in crop management as well as entrepreneurship development and organic-farming-based ecotourism,” Djoko explained.
The Head of Danurejan District, Drs. Antariksa Agus Purnama, M.Si. welcomes UKDW’s initiative in taking part and collaborating with the government and the local community to develop Kampung Sayur Bausasran. “We have initiated urban farming to stimulate economic growth, especially for people in Bausasran Village. A farming group called Gemah Ripah was established on August 4, 2019, with 20 members. We hope that this service-learning program will be useful for students as well as the community, and in accelerating the realization of Bausasran as a food-independent and ecotourism village,” he ended.
